Kiwi Anchor Rider

The Anchor Rider is a 30 pound metal weight that is attached to the deployed anchor chain and is then allowed to slide up and down this chain using a rope lanyard.  When lowered near the sea floor, it acts as a catenary – increasing the horizontal pull on the anchor’s shaft which greatly increases its holding power – very important in stormy conditions.  It also acts like a snubber – reducing anchor shock on the boat in gusty conditions.

In anchorages where available space prohibits the use of adequate chain deployment, the increased effectiveness, when using the anchor rider, allows for a smaller scope.  In a small harbor where you are sharing space with hundreds of your closest friends, this is a comforting piece of equipment.
